Rolling Hills Zoo in Salina has been on our list of things to do probably since before we moved to Lawrence. We always see tons of signs advertising it on I-70 when we drive back and forth to Colorado, and we tried to go a few weekends earlier this spring (this review really sold me on it; more on that later) but every time I’d get sick, like, thought I had food poisoning? Turns out it was my gallbladder! So we celebrated my birthday late, and my gallbladder removal, ha ha, and drove out there the weekend before last. I can’t say much about the quality of the zoo itself (I always have a hard time qualifying my feelings about visiting zoos), but it was nice to check out one in the area that we’d never been to before.

After the zoo, we went to see Mushroom Rock(s) which was neat but not amazing (Rock City is much cooler, in my opinion), then stopped in Lindsborg for a few minutes “on our way” to Manhattan to have dinner with Michael. Lindsborg is super cute (we’d been there before, years ago while staying at Michael’s family’s farm outside town, but didn’t get to see much) and I wish we’d been there when things were open. I loved the Dala horses so much.
