I used to love this abandoned house in Hampden. I always went by it walking to the grocery store from the light rail stop or driving there when I was friends with someone who had a car. It was pink, with this awesome porch, and right on the edge of St. Mary’s Cemetery. My last semester at MICA, when Nat was visiting, we carted a 4×5 camera there on the train and on foot (no easy task) and I spent a day making these pictures. I remember that day, and making these prints in the darkroom, really well.
I thought I’d try to find out if the house is still standing. It’s crazy to me that you can see what a place looked like during three different years on Google Street View. The image from August 2013 broke my heart a little.
My images are copy stand photos (hence the crunchy sharpening) of silver gelatin prints I made in the fall of 2009.
