I took my July 4 holiday the Friday of that week and we went to the ocean, Chapman Beach and then lunch at Big Wave Cafe for the first time in so, so long and then tide-pooling at Short Sand and then we left the dogs in the car and took our new hammock chairs down to Hug Point to sit for a long time. These are the first pictures I took with my new camera, and I honestly couldn’t really tell a difference, but that was before I got the new lens.
Memorial Day weekend was our 7-year wedding anniversary and we went to Port Angeles – our first “vacation” leaving the state since the start of the pandemic (!). The whole thing felt pretty precarious up until we left, so we didn’t do any new research in terms of things to see or trails to do with dogs. Most things that we did I had found out about for our last trip four years ago, like the Ranger Hole Trail on the way up, outside Brinnon. Our first night in town, we had our first meal inside in so long, at Downriggers. It was so good.
The next day we tried to do the Spruce Railroad Trail, but there were just as many people there as last time, so we took Kristin’s last-minute suggestion and went to Crescent Beach / Salt Creek Recreation Area, which was really cool. After that we got drinks at Angeles Brewing Supplies while we waited for our table at Next Door. That table ended up being right in the sun, and we sat there for two hours, so afterward we were completely spent and ended up falling asleep at the hotel really early. The next day we tried to go to La Push, but the reservation is still closed. There was some parking at Third Beach, but it was as full as ever so we skipped that and went to Ruby Beach, where we saw lots of starfish. Then we ate a really lovely meal at Creekside Restaurant, in a hotel. On the way back to town we went in to the National Park (paid $30) to try to go to the hot springs, but they were full. We drove up to Hurricane Ridge on our way out of town the next day and saw lots of deer.
So, all in all a pretty expected COVID vacation. These are the last pictures I took on my old camera! New camera pictures (and then new lens pictures) coming soon.
For my birthday back in May, Nathaniel and I hiked the Salmonberry and then spent the night in Astoria. We ate cheese curds at Buoy, got in the hotel’s hot tub, got Street 14 coffee/pastries, did the Astoria Riverwalk, and went to Phog Bounders. Then we went to Cannon Beach and ate crepes and went down to Chapman Beach. We drank beer in the Indian Beach parking lot, and on the way home, we finally stopped to drink the water on the side of Sunset Highway.
I’ve been trying some different presets in Lightroom and over the past few months I have come to hate them all. I’m editing the pictures I’ve taken on my new camera without any. Is this part of growing up? Anyway I’m sorry these photos look so weird.
