OK, let’s see what I can remember about this time away in the middle of October. It was glorious. It was three whole days with absolutely no obligations. When we arrived at our cabin (after driving for five hours with no stops, and no music or audio! Both weirdly not weird) I noticed a beautiful dead varied thrush that ended up capturing my attention for… a long time. (I created a memorial for it behind the cabin before we left.) We got in the outdoor tub every day. We walked around the grounds with the dogs and looked up at the sky every night. One night, we laid on our backs on the patio under a blanket and looked at the stars for a long time. You could see so many. We did yoga in the enclosed porch. We started the paint-by-number Nathaniel got me last Christmas. (Note from four months in the future: We have worked on it every trip since!) Twice, we hiked at Green Springs Mountain. We loved that loop hike – such beautiful views. We did go in to Ashland for a couple grocery items we forgot, and we tried to walk the dogs there, but was so busy with people! So we turned right around and went back to our little paradise of a cabin. I can’t wait to go to back to to this super special place. Maybe for Nathaniel’s birthday in March.
