I grew up going to the balloon fest in my hometown of Colorado Springs every Labor Day weekend (I guess it’s called the Labor Day Lift Off?) so I was super excited to learn that my new “hometown” has a balloon festival of its own! It was the weekend my dad and I got back from our trip, so we went that Saturday night for the balloon glow. Somehow we just barely missed it, so we went to the fair that accompanied it instead (we may have seen the fair and walked toward that and missed the glow simply by walking in the wrong direction). Anyway, it was a great time! We paid way too much to ride the very bad Haunted Mansion ride and we ate some greasy carnival food and deep-fried ice cream. In the morning, Nat and I woke up at 5 to see the balloons take off. On our way out we walked over to the carnival lot and somehow ended up in the front of the line to go up in a balloon! For free! I might have been too tired to fully appreciate the fact that I was up in a hot air balloon for about three minutes, but it was a very cool thing we got to do. I have a few more iPhone photos I want to save here and then I am completely caught up from this time my dad was visiting almost six weeks ago!
