For the Fourth of July, we headed toward the John Day Fossil Beds, mainly to see the Painted Hills. Travel Oregon’s Seven Wonders of Oregon site basically told me exactly how to best plan our trip; about three quarters of the things we did/saw came from there. We started by visiting the Sherman County Historical Museum in Moro. The museum was pretty neat, and the town of Moro is super cute. We went to a couple antique stores and then drove to Shaniko, the “ghost town that couldn’t be bought.” Late afternoon, we made it to our campsite at Prineville Reservoir State Park. We put the hammock up and hung out and then went to sleep for an early start the next day.
