When we drove down the Oregon Coast last winter, Newport was one of our absolute favorite spots. Since it’s just a little farther than we like to drive on a day off, we hadn’t been back until this past weekend, and oh man, was it a fantastic day. It was 64 degrees and super sunny at Yaquina Head–not my favorite kind of day ? but I can appreciate it every now and then. It was definitely a nice mid-February taste of warmer weather to come. We hadn’t gotten to see either lighthouse last time, so we made a point to see both, and we spent some time looking in the tide pools; Nat saw way cooler stuff than I did. Also, those blobs out on the one rock? Are harbor seals! In exploring a more in a spot where no one else was we came across a dead one, which was pretty amazing to see. We hung out for a bit at the bayfront, watching sea lions, then headed home. Now I really want to move to Corvallis so Newport is only an hour away.
