It was a wild weekend. We drove a total of about 800 miles and were in the car for 12 hours over three days. For a long, long time, we’ve been looking for a more fuel-efficient car to replace Nat’s 4Runner since he has a 60-mile daily commute, and he finally budged a little on some of his specifications so we drove down to Wichita to check out a car. It was no good, but we still did some antiquing and ate cream puffs and made it back to Lawrence in time for the county fair (!). While we were eating pizza and drinking beers in Wichita, I found another car online that seemed promising, in Des Moines, IA. So we decided to chuck our remaining weekend plans and drive to Des Moines to camp and check out the car. More on that later…

Somehow the fair was in town for two weeks before I found out about it? So we went on the last night. It was so neat. I love seeing all the animals and the old-style rides (that look so, so much scarier than your typical modern theme park rides) and even though we didn’t ride the Ferris wheel, I had stars in my eyes all night.
