Now back to regular programming of romps around Kansas. Our second weekend back, we tried to go to our beloved new secret beach, but we couldn’t even find the trail because things were so overgrown. Since the Wetlands we so often frequented are closed indefinitely, we’re left to walk pretty much our only remaining option, the Riverfront trail that takes you under I-70, which is fine by me since Cody loves to swim in the river. We did see two dead fawns on the secret beach trail, though, and little sand toads, and we scared away two big does who bounded through the swamp that area has become. On the Riverfront trail, we saw a turtle and a snake. The second turtle is one we found crossing the road at Longview Lake when we were in Missouri going to the Brass Armadillo. My life here is a zoo.
Attempting the Secret Beach: a Failure Because it’s Summertime

forever amazed by how much wildlife crosses your path!
I am, too! I always think about how little wildlife I saw day-to-day while living in Colorado, a place everything thinks of as filled with wildlife. You always had to go so far out to see anything at all, deer or elk and whatnot. And here we see little critters daily. I love it.
