We had a quiet Thanksgiving Day at my parents’ townhome outside Pittsburgh, PA. Nathaniel and my dad and I played games while my mom baked and cooked (we bought that new $5 “Trouble” on the way over and tried to play it but no way, we had to pull out our ages-old version because it’s much better), and the three of us took Cody for a walk at a park in their neighborhood. We haven’t gotten snow in Kansas yet so it was nice to see the white blanketing everything there and watch Cody stuff his face into the snow piles. My dad colored a turkey, as I have memories of him doing in some place or another nearly every year (the newspaper, a tablecloth) and showed me the pictures he’s been taking with my old camera of the huge variety of birds right outside their living room window. Some deer visited during dinner!
My parents’ complex doesn’t allow pets so we stayed in a hotel. One evening as we were driving back to the hotel for the night, we saw that everyone was standing outside and there were a ton of firetrucks in the hotel parking lot. The dryer in the laundry room right next to our room had started on fire! Crazy. But we made it inside and everything was fine, and with my mom we booked our honeymoon (!) that night. We had a super busy weekend; we went to the conservatory, the aviary, and the natural history museum. I took a ton of pictures! Will get to them soon.
