I’ve been trying to figure out why I never realized that October is by far the best month of the year (I mean, I always liked it), and I think it’s because this is my first year (embracing) living in a harvest region. Harvest festivals are seriously the best thing ever. Last weekend, we went to Applefest in our new favorite small town, Weston, MO, this weekend, we’re going apple picking and pumpkin patching (and maybe to the Mother Earth Fair), and the weekend after that, Nathaniel’s parents are coming and we’re going to the Maple Leaf Festival in Baldwin City (and maybe on a dinner train ride!).

Growing up in Colorado, the best part of October was just Halloween. And it was always one of my favorite days of the year, but I remember it being freezing cold most of the month, especially as a teenager. I still count the coldest I’ve ever been in my entire life Halloween of my ninth grade year. Here, the month started out uncomfortably warm, but now it’s perfect. It also feels like the festivities stretch all the way to the beginning of the month here. I love driving to work through the country and seeing all the farmhouses and properties trimmed with the sweetest homemade decorations.

I’m posting two days in a row because… like I said, October’s gonna be a busy month :)
