Three weeks ago today, we made the drive from Denver to Lawrence. Nat drove his 4Runner with the U-Haul trailer and Moon, and I drove behind with Dean. It was a long, not entirely pleasant drive. We spent a lot of time unloading the trailer, moving in, and getting settled in our apartment and in town, and then we found some time to go to Clinton Lake. We had lunch on the “beach” and were the only ones there. We were just sitting quietly when a momma and baby deer walked out of the trees, drank from the water, and walked back in. The other day we went to Perry Lake, walked up this unused road, and had a picnic on a ledge above the waterside.
I’m excited for us to have our first visitors this weekend–N’s mom, dad, and sister are coming! It’s hard to not go out and do all the things now that we’re going to be doing with them in a few days anyway. We’re making ourselves stay inside and continue to scour the internet for employment possibilities. This is the reward we’re giving ourselves for doing all those things you have to do when you move, like get a new drivers license, get a bank account, register your car… moving to another state is FUN.
